Today sees the release of the PlayStation 4’s System Software update 4.0 (codenamed ‘Shingen’), which Sony say will “offer a more refined and accessible experience.”
The update mainly features UI tweaks and improvements, but also includes some long requested new features.
There’s a cleaner looking ‘What’s New’ section on the dashboard, new system backgrounds and profile customisation, and a less obtrusive ‘Quick Menu’ to access during gameplay.
Importantly, users can now organise games and apps into customisable folders, and library items can be sorted and searched for.
The update also adds HDR functionality to all PS4 systems (as promised at last week’s PlayStation Meeting event), and there are some PS4 Pro-specific updates to streaming, ahead of the new hardware’s release on November 10th.
